Maa Lalita tripura sundari story

The story of Maa (Goddess) lalita Tripura Sundari is wrirtten in Bhramand Puran (  Bhramand puran is the last puran in 18 mahapurans).

This story starts with the conversation between Rishi Agstya and Lord Hygriva, Lord Hygriva is telling the story of Maa Lalita Tripura Sundari to Agstya Rishi.

The story begins with a scenario of Raja Dakshya Prajapati yagya in which his daughter Mata Sati and her husband Lord Shiva are not invited, Mata sati feels it is disrespectful to her husband Lord Shiva, and burns herself by jumping in Yajna Vedi, this incident gives Lord shiva a trauma and lord shiva decide to go on deep meditation.

Sidewise an Asura (demon) Tarkasur worshipped Bharma Deva and got a blessing from Bharma Deva that he ( Tarkaasur) can be only killed by Lord Shiva’s son, but Lord Shiva is in deep meditation.

All the Devatas ( Deities ) seek help from Manmatha (Kamadeva – the god of love ), the manmatha leaves 5 arrows towards Lord Shiva, the deep meditation of Lord Shiva gets disturbed by flower love arrows,  the third eye of Lord Shiva opens with anger and the love god Manmatha gets all burnt into ashes by the fire from Lord Shiva third eye.

Then the ashes of Manmatha are gathered by Shiv ganas and the Shiv ganas make a human form from the ashes of Manmatha, the ash form of Manmatha is placed in front of Lord Shiva, in the presence of Lord Shiva the ash form shows the sign of life.

The Shiva ganas give Sat Rudriya mantra to ash form to chant to worship Lord Shiva and by chanting Sat Rudriya mantra the ash form makes Lord Shiva happy and gets the power from Lord Shiva’s blessing

  • The first power is that if anyone tries to fight him/ the enemy in front of him, his half-power will automatically transfer to this ash form,
  • Second power no weapon can harm him,
  • Third power that he will rule over for 60 thousand years.

This ash form is named “Bhand”. the two other creatures are formed from the ash of Manmatha, they are ” Vishukr” and “Vishang” They both are brothers of Bhand. Later Bhand mind changed and he became a demon.

The “Bhand” became “Bhandasura” The Bhandasura became very powerful he made his own Asur ( demon) army by the residues of the ashes of Manmatha.     The Bhandasur makes Havoc everywhere he goes, the three Locas get Traumatised by Bhandasur then the devtas all combine their energy and arrange a big Yajna ( holy fire ) and offer their energy in yajna and pray Maa Shakti to help them, then Maa Tripura Sundari came out/ invocate from the holy fire. The purpose of the origination of Maa Lalita Tripura Sundari is to kill Bhandasur and settle peace and happiness in all three realms.
